#680 - 7.77ct Green Freeform Sapphire

14.8mm l x 8.8mm w x 7.1mm depth.

When I saw this beautiful green sapphire I spent quite a bit of time assessing it for the right faceting design.. 
The rough gem was an unusual shaped but Crystal Clear Green. It seemed such a shame to saw or grind a piece off to try and produce a symmetrical, classical design, so I decided on a 'random facet' freeform, or ' facet mapped' design.
The process in faceting this gem involves working with the rough piece, determining exactly where to place individual facets, following the general shape of the rough Sapphire and also incorporating facets and angles that will give the best performance for the gem. It is a time consuming process, but worth it to present the gem in a natural and enhanced form, ready for a unique piece of jewellery.
